In this concise four-minute video, Professor Loizos G. Loizou, a paediatric oncologist with more than 40 years of experience, explains that although not all childhood cancers can be prevented, there are six important measures that may help reduce the risk.

These include:

1) Breastfeeding during the first six months of life, which has been associated with a lower risk of childhood leukaemia and neuroblastoma.
2) Adopting a healthy lifestyle before conception, helping future parents optimise their own health before pregnancy.
3) Avoiding unnecessary exposure to ionising radiation, such as avoidable CT scans.
4) Preventing childhood obesity through healthy nutrition and regular physical activity.
5) Monitoring families with an inherited predisposition to cancer, allowing appropriate genetic assessment and follow-up when indicated.
6) Vaccination and infection prevention, including vaccination against hepatitis B and human papillomavirus (HPV), as well as measures to prevent infections such as HIV.

- Professor Loizou emphasises that every preventive action represents an investment in a child's future. While not every childhood cancer can be prevented, taking evidence-based preventive measures today can contribute to tomorrow's greatest victory against childhood cancer.

Watch the video and help spread this important message. By sharing reliable health information, you can help protect children and raise awareness about childhood cancer prevention.
